Mom’s heart cath went well. We were scheduled to arrive & begin prep two hours early, which meant our day started around 6 for an 8:30 check in. Someone else’s emergency delayed the procedure for an hour. They started at 11:30 and finished looking by 12. All is well, heart weakness chalked up to illness last August. For a refresher, that was kidney stones, UTI, sepsis, dehydration, and DNR discussions.
Recovery, making sure she rests, doesn’t use her right (dominant) hand, doesn’t bend her wrist…has been a nearly lost cause. She doesn’t remember it’s important. She’s still upright & breathing normally, we’ll take it.
Next on the medical agenda is my right eye, removal of two cataracts on 3/13. I’m not supposed to bend, lift, etc… for the first week. Mom’ll essentially be in charge while Dad goes to work at the homeplace in KY for a few days. Trusted visitors welcome. After a week, I’ll have a follow-up on my eye, then I’ll return to Indy, as far as I know.
Dad had a few tests, and now they want to do a few more, as well as surgery to remove a skin cancer between his nose and eye. There are enough stories in his heritage for him to be nervous. He’s already been watching mom’s decline from the position of sole caretaker. His adventure is not one to be envied.
Meanwhile, my car was in the shop. The mechanic said all is well, though noisy, unless the battery light comes on. Then, pull over ASAP. But it’s expected to do well for a while yet. I’m highly thankful that it’s not as bad as the mysterious sounds suggest.
Preparations are underway for our Deaf Kids Connect team to attend the Deaf Missions conference in Texas in April. While there, we’ll see the world premier of the Jesus Movie in ASL. The plan (and prayer) is to follow that up with many small groups and families discussing why those events matter now.
They matter because Heaven is God’s home, and none of us are qualified to be there. He extends His invitation for individuals to live with Him both here and there, but only through Jesus. You don’t get into a concert without a ticket or into a home without knowing the owner. The Jesus Movie is one (long overdue) way to meet Him.
Another way is to be introduced by friends of His. With whom and how are you making introductions?
