Once upon a time… tying strings to junebug legs… catching fireflies (aka lightning bugs)… definitely being in the pool several times by now… on the edge of a long-awaited graduation… time dragged on day by day… now it’s zooming by so fast we can’t keep up, and certainly don’t have time for grabbing bugs of any kind.
They warned us, all those elders who said time would get faster the more candles you had on your cake. We didn’t believe them. Silly us.
Even the weather seems to be struggling to keep up the pace. 50’s & 60’s, in May? In the MidWest? What’s up with that?? Now we’re getting the April Showers that should bring May Flowers, but give it 24 hours and the temps are a flower-wilting 80 plus, until night when one trades off between stifling heat and the need for a light blanket. It’s enough to make one shake their head.
Parents are a whole adventure unto themselves. Physically healthy, mostly, with good news from the doctors and more appointments to check this or that. The calendar is staying just full enough to prevent journeys, and just empty enough to suggest we should have some. Remember the relatively carefree days of long ago when health was merely a class you took along with gym? I’m starting to miss those.
Ministry is somewhat on hold, though I’m involved with a local deaf church. I’m also working with one of my hearing churches on their VBS music. I’m anxious to discuss some ideas with friends, yet there’s this nagging desire to clean off my backlog first.
I’ve made a bit of progress on some quilt projects, will likely send one or two to KY for our annual fundraising auction. The ladies at the quilting group I just joined said they look lovely. The crazy thing was trying to explain a scrappy version of a quilt block I learned over 30 years ago, and modified beyond recognition for the fabric I had available. It really doesn’t belong in the auction beside my cousins’ works… it may not go after all.
I’ve sent some letters out to donors, and have several more printed off as well as more addresses to add. Getting the first batch labeled turned out to be more adventure than expected, so I’ll do the next batch differently. One of the items is a promise to create a donation path. That requires some undistracted thought, as well as a secure internet connection. Managing both at the same time is a bit tricky at present, and gets interrupted by that nagging backlog.
We’ve watched some lovely shows, had some chats, and done some driving & shopping. “Wonka” is now on my Christmas List, and I guess I’ll need to get it written soon since the year’s nearly half done. My commitment is to keep writing updates at least every few weeks, and the past few have gone by with little to show for themselves.
In all this, I can still say that Jesus isn’t surprised, and hope He’s not shaking His head too much. Is anyone else feeling like they’re driving the German Autobahn and watching for an exit ramp??
