Found Treasures

Today we went out again, it’s the activity on the schedule for the cousin with whom I’m staying. We didn’t find the irresistable cookbook, though there were MANY to choose from. No leather jacket in the right size, no deep muffin tins. There were packed houses and sparse houses, each with whispers of the homes they used to be and the people who lived in them. We saw decor that we admired and decor that we’d be inclined to change.

We also saw some treasures. A wool blanket for 1/8 of its retail, a ring for 1/4 or less of retail, and several books and CDs for just a few dollars.

It’s interesting how we attribute value – the time and care that goes into the creation of something, the uniqueness or rarity of it, or even the small tag bearing the creator’s name – the maker’s mark.

Now…think of the various humans you know…the ones you admire…the ones you’d be inclined to change…. Think of the initial 9 months, then the following years and experiences that make those people who they are… think of how, even in the same families, each one is uniquely different… and yes, though it’s often too difficult to see, each has a small Maker’s mark. It’s found in compassion, creativity, logic, the ability to sacrificially love another creature like or unlike ourselves.

No matter how you are currently arranged or decorated, know that you are valuable. There is One who designed you, created you, and seeks to put you on display so that His mark might be clearly seen. You are a valuable treasure – don’t let the sellers say otherwise.
