For me, children are like cinnamon… A sprinkle occasionally is a sweet treat, high concentrations are a little too hot these days.
While at Isaiah’s Place, I learned of an opportunity in Houston. After the smoke of the initial chemical tank fires cleared, I went down to check it out. Wandering the grounds on Saturday, I considered what I understood of the job, my abilities, and their needs and concerns. The sense of “fit” was not present. Still, I had committed to exploring all options.
Sunday school held some messages for me, as did the worship service and the Bible study that followed lunch. I’d have to look over my notes to share more. I was warmly greeted and welcomed, and would love to visit again. I made arrangements to meet with the pastor on Tuesday afternoon.
By Monday evening, a misunderstanding on my part was cleared up. The role they’re seeking to fill is a children’s director. Theirs was recently called out of state. That job takes a lot more consistent creativity and grace than I have. Hats off to the children’s directors, bless their energetic hearts.
I sent word to the pastor and headed farther southeast to see cousins in San Diego. Occasional weekend events at Isaiah’s Place will be a sweet treat. I’m just getting too old for the extra spice of kids in high concentrations.
