1 Thessalonians 5:18 –
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (KJV)
What if the word “this” refers not to the “give thanks”, but to the “every thing” God has authorized because He’s working out His will in your unique life?
Until last night, this verse reminded me of more failure — failing to muster up thankfulness for every situation. But last night I understood it differently… “every thing” is part of God’s will for my unique participation in His Kingdom… that He would include me, and engineer things (even if I don’t like them) to make me more useful or more fit for Heaven, considering the unique creation I am by His design… I can definitely give thanks for that!
