Seasons Change

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens.  ~Eccl 3:1

For some time now, I’ve been making plans to take a sabbatical, to focus my attention on my call to ministry and where God is directing at this time. I’m pleased with what I’ve done since joining Silent Blessings in 2013, and it’s entirely possible that I’ll be returning at the end of this break. It’s also entirely possible that I’ll find myself assigned elsewhere. I’m making preparations for either answer, and I ask for your support in praying that the answer will be clear.

Those of you who have encouraged, invested, and prayed have participated in some rather interesting projects. You’ve invigorated a unique ministry that was facing dreams without resources.

Now, we have an inclusive Vacation Bible School curriculum that serves deaf and hearing children simultaneously with video teachers delivering the lesson and on-site teachers delivering a hands-on experience. Children learn they can Trust God, His word, love, grace, ways, and plan for each life. Lessons are reinforced in every module, from the Bible verses in opening worship through games like follow the leader, and even coordinated snacks like a food tour of Joseph’s life in Egypt. We’ve done several tests in different environments. making notes of necessary adjustments.

We have the God Loves Deaf Kids app streaming every episode of Dr. Wonder’s Workshop, including videos of each individual segment. Children can watch any sign song, Bible story, object lesson, and more on any cell or handheld device for free. They can also play with word games, coloring pages, and other activities to reinforce the lessons of the videos.

There’s another accomplishment that isn’t easily measured. In the spring of 2015, our office manager was diagnosed with cancer, and by that Christmas she passed away. During those months, Judy and I worked closely together to document procedures, passwords, and other pertinent details of the office. It took a while to find the current office manager and transfer the information once again. Your support ensured that I was available to do just that.

Whatever the next season holds, whether further development at Silent Blessings or another assignment elsewhere, I’ve been in the appointed place for such a time as this.
