Birthday Season Begins! (er, began)

Not mine yet, I’m in a growing line of fall babies who tend to prefer September. Two days from now earlier will be my great nephew, then my dad, nephew’s grandpa, then his sister. That’s my ultimate deadline for the quilt I have had on the counter.

Update to the update: Dad’s card count is roughly 130. He was suitably surprised. Many thanks all!!

But first, for those following along, both parents are still having belly issues. I’d set the menu to bread & water, but one prefers tea (decaf) and is still risking dehydration and the other is finding that water isn’t setting right & bread is not allowed with suspected gout. To quote an infamous woman, let them eat cake.

Update to the update: Dad’s is resolving with meds, it isn’t gout, mom’s is being researched.

Quilt’s done & delivered, and tomorrow is great niece’s birthday to be celebrated this weekend. I’m almost done with the gift for last Christmas. Another quilt project is about to be put on hold, and another pulled from storage. All this just in time for my first day at a new job – local quilt shop. Missionary to quilters? Maybe. At least it will be some Christmas money.

As of today, I’m caught up with last Christmas!

And of course, halfway through the project, I learned another way to do it. Maybe next time (if there is one). Now I can get on unfinished and new quilts without the guilt of sewing backlog. But first, I have a picnic in Michiana to get ready for and a job at the local fabric shop and mom’s doctor appointment this afternoon. (Doc wants a blood test in the morning.)

For friends watching for updates (and this one is well overdue), the above is an overall snapshot of life these days. This life season is labeled “parent care,” and I’m still hoping to squeak in some Deaf and missionary work. Hopefully there will be more on that soon.

But I’m caught up with last Christmas, and Birthday Season is wrapped up for a while. I’ll take it.

I just read the August post, so here are some updates on that… Doc reset my Metformin, said it wouldn’t impact my overnight numbers. She also cut the new medicine in half, which takes my overnight numbers to slightly sketchy, not disconcerting. My A1C tested at 5.7, back on the preferred trajectory. My weight trajectory? Yeah, we won’t mention that any further. Too bad I can’t donate to mom.

The inventory may not actually happen, Mom’s clutter threshold will probably forbid it. Seasonal clothes swapping may happen later this week, and hopefully provide more to take to the donation place when I go up north this weekend. I’m also hoping it lets us reconfigure one room as a sewing/sorting area. The “Dear Santa 2024” is written, and I admit I’ve been making adjustments to it. Cutoff date is Dec 23, right? 🙂

More research into adopting dogs reveals that the not-a-mill places want a physical fence. With acreage and woods and the joy of watching deer frolic in the yard, that’s not happening. Have I mentioned how I got three of my cats when it was the right time to have them? That may be how we get the dog – divine delivery. Or not, He knows best.

Senior and quilt groups are in the consideration phase until the next dues cycle in December. I’m rather certain about one. I definitely should get in another encouragement and accountability group for writing. Nano is currently controversial for a couple of reasons. I’ve not yet succeeded in 50K words in the month of November, so it’s not quite the loss for me as it is for others. There may be another challenge come down the pike for those dedicated to Nano’s original goals (camaraderie & 50K in 30 days). I hope so. I did contact my publishing friend, and going that route is on pause for now.

There’s the September 2024 update. I’ve given up promising that I’ll do better – especially since the pile of June letters still hasn’t made it off my desk. <sigh>

Until next time…
